The current situation has inspired me to create the series New Normality, that represents Barcelona’s inhabitants wearing masks, free to move on the streets after the paralysis of the confinement and reintegrating in the urban fabric of textures and shapes.
The human interaction has definitely changed: a more distant physical contact translates - specifically in these two images - into a closer virtual contact through smart phones and other mobile devices.
We all know that during the lockdown these same devices have acquired a fundamental importance for our emotional wellbeing, in the form of primary connection with our loved ones.
So if before we were addicted, now we are super addicted to them.
These images are analogue multiple exposures, which means that a portion of film has been used twice to capture two images instead of one. Everything happens in camera and the end result is revealed only when the film gets developed. There is no photoshop or digital manipulation involved.
